Take a screenshot

Sometimes you want to capture an image on your screen. The easiest way is the keyboard shortcut Command + Shift + 3 which will snap a full screen picture and put it on your desktop. It'll even make a camera click sound while doing it.

If you want a specific part of your screen, you can use the keyboard shortcut Command + Shift + 4 to draw a box around the area of the screen you wish to capture. Again, this will create an image file of the area in question and place that file on your Desktop.

If you need more control the program to use is Apple's free Grab. Grab is located in Applications > Utilities and will allow you to capture fullscreen, window or selections.

(If you're using an iPad or iPhone, you can get a full screen shot by pressing the Home button and the Power button simultaneously. The screen will flash white, and you'll find the shot in your Camera Roll.)
